Small groups are the foundation of Fairfax Community Church; this is where our church happens! Our mission is to build authentic, life changing relationships through a community of small groups by creating the environment to grow our relationship with Christ and inspiring others to join in. There are several Community Life events that occur throughout the year. We need your help to make these events memorable for those attending.
Small Group Leaders
Our key volunteers in our small groups are our leaders. These are people who are responsible for influencing the direction of their small group, are held accountable to upholding our small group expectations, and who communicate and meet regularly with one of our Small Group Directors. Our leaders rise up from within small groups that are formed at GroupLink. We form small groups based on group type and geographic location. Together, our small groups identify who their key influencer is, and that person covenants with the church to uphold the mission and vision of Fairfax Community Church as embodied by our small group community.
Small Group Hosts
All our small groups meet in homes. A small group host is an individual, couple, or family who is willing to open their house to their small group every week. At minimum this requires providing a room in which 10-12 people can comfortably gather in a distraction free environment. Some hosts will choose to provide light refreshments, while other groups share this responsibility.
GroupLink Volunteer Opportunities
As you know, GroupLink is the frenetically beautiful event at Fairfax Community Church where people connect to form small groups. Volunteers are crucial to the success of this event. If your life has been changed because of your participation in a small group, please consider serving at GroupLink so that others may discover those same life changing experiences. GroupLink is even a great opportunity for your small group to serve together! Please contact Kathleen at kathleenotchy@fairfax.cc if you or anyone in your group is willing to assist in one of the following areas:
Set-up Team
Have muscle for hire? We need a minimum of 4 people – the more the better – to help set up for GroupLink. We start at 1pm, following the second service, and finish around 3:30. This does require some heavy lifting.
Greeters and Registration Connectors
Do you enjoy meeting and connecting with new people? We need at least 3 people to welcome and direct our guests as they arrive. Your assistance with handing out information to our guests and directing them through our registration lines is a crucial organizational aspect to GroupLink. If you are familiar with our check-in system, we need 5 people who are willing to check guests into the GroupLink event using our Fellowship One database. Both greeters and registration connectors need to arrive by 4:30 and remain until 7:30.
GroupLink Connectors
Once the stage is set and guests arrive and check in, the work to connect people to small groups starts to move at a rapid pace. Guests come to this event searching for a group that they can soon call their own. One of the keys to helping individuals find a group that will meet their needs is a GroupLink connector. These volunteers work the room, talk to people about what they are looking for in a group and then start making matches. Connectors meet and mingle with guests at the event answer questions and point guests in the direction of groups that they may want to learn more about. The work involved in this position is well worth the joy you will have at the end of the night when you see people connect to a group and start their journey as a part of community. Connectors should arrive at the church no later than 4:30 and plan to stay until 7:30.
