The Hospitality ministry focuses on welcoming our guests and members to Fairfax Community Church.
NEXT Representative
NEXT Representatives greets newcomers at NEXT and makes them feel welcome before the Sr. Pastor arrives to start the meeting. NEXT Representatives meet NEXT participants directly after the service in room 108, hand out information cards, folders and pencils, and chat with the newcomers before the Sr. Pastor’s enters. Upon the Sr. Pastor’s arrival, the NEXT Representative says goodbye to the participants and exits the room.
Who the Position Reports To: Director of Hospitality & Executive Administration
Time Required: NEXT Representatives serve for 5-10 minutes directly after the service ends. NEXT Representatives serve every other week at the service that they prefer.
Term of Commitment: No minimum or maximum commitment.
Qualifications: NEXT Representatives should be cheerful, friendly, approachable, comfortable talking to new people and willing to answer questions about the church.
Training Provided: There is initial training and then one Hospitality training session per year, as well as continuous on-the-job training.
Benefits For the Volunteer: As a NEXT Representative, you will interact with new people and join the Hospitality Team.
Prayer Volunteer
Prayer Volunteers pray for members of our congregation on a regular basis. Prayer Volunteers are available to pray for members of our congregation during the last portion of worship in a service.
Who the Position Reports To: Director of Hospitality & Executive Administration
Time Required: Prayer Volunteers serve during the last portion of worship in a worship service. Prayer Volunteers serve every other week at the service they prefer.
Term of Commitment: No minimum or maximum commitment.
Qualifications: Prayer Volunteers should be warm, approachable, comfortable engaging in conversation with new people, and have a heart for prayer and helping those in a position of need.
Training Provided: There is initial training and then one Hospitality training session per year and continual on-the-job training for new Prayer Volunteer.
Benefits for the Volunteer: As a Prayer Volunteer, you will be part of the Hospitality Team, get to know members of our congregation, and help to further God’s Kingdom through prayer.
Communion Coordinator
Communion Preparation Volunteers provide our congregation the ability to observe Communion during the service. Communion Preparation Volunteers set up communion before the service starts, and clean up afterwards. The required tasks associated with this exercise differ from service to service.
Who the Position Reports To: Director of Hospitality & Executive Administration
Time Required: Communion Preparation Volunteers serve 20-30 minutes before the service for approximately 10 minutes, and directly after the service for 5-10 minutes.
Term of Commitment: No minimum or maximum commitment.
Qualifications: Communion Preparation Volunteers should have a heart for service, and be organized and timely.
Training Provided: There is initial training and then one Hospitality training session per year and continual on-the-job training for new Communion Preparation Volunteers.
Benefits for the Volunteer: As a Communion Preparation Volunteer, you will be part of the Hospitality Team and enjoy the companionship of the team and the knowledge that you are providing a pivotal service to our congregation.
Parking Attendant
The Parking Team ensures that guests and members have a positive experience getting to our building through warm smiles, helpful directions and an orderly process. Parking Team members direct cars into, around and away from our parking lot. This team ensures a smooth and organized process for people to come to church.
Who the Position Reports To: Parking Crew Chief, Parking Coordinator
Time Required Per Week/Month: Saturday and Sunday night Parking Attendants serve from 15 minutes before the service starts until 15 minutes after the service starts. Sunday morning Attendants serve from 9:15-9:45 am and 10:45-11:30 am. Attendants serve two services per month.
Term of Commitment: No minimum or maximum commitment.
Qualifications: Parking Attendants should be cheerful and willing to direct cars to appropriate spots and ensure that traffic flows smoothly.
Training Provided: There is initial training and then one Hospitality training session per year and continual on-the-job training for new Parking Attendants.
Benefits for the Volunteer: As a Parking Attendant, you interact with many people and have the opportunity to work as part of a team.
Greeter
Greeters provide the first warm welcome, set the first impression for our guests and are available to help people. Greeters welcome both guests and regular attendees to the weekend services with smiles and kind words. These team members also look for and approach guests. They escort families to the children’s rooms and adults into the sanctuary. These team members answer many questions about the church and help our guests feel comfortable. Generally, there are 1-2 greeters outside, 2 at the front door, 2-3 in the lobby, and 1-2 at the sanctuary doors for each service.
Who the Position Reports To: Greeter Coordinator
Time Required: Greeters serve from 15 minutes before the service to 15 minutes after the service begins. Greeters serve twice each month at the service they prefer.
Term of Commitment: No minimum or maximum commitment.
Qualifications: Greeters should be cheerful, friendly, approachable, comfortable talking to new people and willing to answer questions about the church.
Training Provided: There is initial training and then one Hospitality training session per year and continual on-the-job training for new Greeters.
Benefits for the Volunteer: As a Greeter, you will interact with many people and get to know the names and faces of our members.
Connection Center
The Connection Center is the place to find answers. Guests and members know that they can find help for anything at the Connection Center. Connection Center team answers questions from guest and members. They also maintain sign-up sheets, distribute information booklets and sell sermon CDs.
Who the Position Reports To: Connection Center Coordinator
Time Required Per Week/Month: Connection Center staff serve from 15 minutes before the service to 15 minutes after the service begins. They also serve for 15-20 minutes after the service ends. Connection Center staff generally serves twice each month at the service they prefer.
Term of Commitment: There is no minimum or maximum commitment.
Qualifications: Connection Center staff should be approachable, friendly comfortable talking to new people and answering questions about the church.
Training Provided: There is initial training and then one Hospitality training session per year and continual on-the-job training for new team members.
Benefits for the Volunteer: As part of the Connection Center, you will interact with many people and learn a lot about the church. You will also form friendships with others on the team.
Usher
Ushers are among the first people our guests and members will speak with upon entering the building. Their kindness and willingness to assist others make ushers a valuable part of the Hospitality Team. Ushers serve in two primary ways. First, the ushers assist the guests as they arrive in the sanctuary. This includes providing them with worship folders and pencils, helping them to find seats as the sanctuary becomes crowded, and responding to any situations that require special assistance. Second, the ushers support the function of each service by taking attendance, counting the offering, and picking up in the sanctuary following each service.
Who the Position Reports To: Head Usher, Usher Coordinator
Time Required: Ushers serve from 15 minutes before the service until the offering count has been completed and trash has been picked up in the sanctuary. Ushers serve twice a month at the service they prefer.
Term of Commitment: No minimum or maximum commitment.
Qualifications: Ushers should be cheerful, friendly, approachable, comfortable talking to new people and willing to answer questions about the church.
Training Provided: There is one Hospitality training session per year and continual on-the-job training for new ushers.
Benefits for the Volunteer: As an usher, you will have an opportunity to meet many guests and members of Fairfax Community Church. You will likely learn about other ministries as you provide this information to newer guests and members.
Security Team
The Security Team provides security for the congregation and the church building/grounds. These team members will patrol the parking lot, grounds and inside the building. They will be alert to potential dangerous situations and take appropriate actions to remedy situations. The will inform and seek assistance from other church leaders or from local authorities as needed. These team members will also offer assistance, when appropriate, to our guests and members.
Who the Position Reports To: Security Team Leader and Director of Hospitality & Executive Administration
Time Required: Security Team members serve from 15 minutes before the service through the service and for 15 minutes after the service.
Term of Commitment: No minimum or maximum commitment.
Qualifications: Security Team members should be alert, not easily intimidated, have excellent discernment, be dependable, levelheaded, friendly, and comfortable talking to new people.
Training Provided: There is initial training and then training sessions as needed.
Benefits for the Volunteer: As a Security Team member, you will interact with many people and get to know the names and faces of our members.
Service Coordinator
Service Coordinators are the eyes and ears of the Hospitality team before and during our worship services. They spend their time making sure everything is running smoothly and assisting other team members when issues arise. Service coordinators help prepare the lobby and sanctuary for our worship services and ensure that the Hospitality teams have everything they need to serve our guests and members.
Who the Position Reports To: Hospitality Coordinator
Time Required: Service coordinators serve from 30 minutes before the service until the service is over. Generally, most of the activity happens before the service and as the service is starting. They serve two times per month during the day the prefer, Saturday night (5 – 6:45 pm) or Sunday morning (9 am – 12:30 pm).
Term of Commitment: No minimum or maximum commitment.
Qualifications: Service Coordinators should be cheerful, friendly, approachable, comfortable talking to new people and willing to answer questions about the church. They should have an eye for detail and the ability to see a situation and immediately be able to take action on how to handle it. Service coordinators should have a team approach to ministry and be able to step in to assist other Hospitality team members as needed.
Training Provided: There are two Hospitality training sessions per year and continual on-the-job training for new service coordinators.
Benefits for the Volunteer: As a service coordinator, you will have an opportunity to meet many guests and members of Fairfax Community Church. You will get to know other Hospitality team members quite well and develop relationships with a number of different people. You’ll get to use your leadership skills every week!
