We are a tired people.

We may even be teetering on the brink of deep weariness and it would seem a good night’s sleep or two might do the trick.

But maybe we are tired at a soul level and before we can be or do anything else, we need to find a place of rest in God.

One of my favorite authors, Henri Nouwen said, “Without solitude, it is virtually impossible to have a spiritual life.”

Did you know that when we long for solitude we are actually longing for God?

Solitude is the most basic of spiritual disciplines as we let go of our outer distractions to create space for him alone.

If you need a bit of solitude this week, find a bit of quiet maybe in a place of beauty (the weather will be so perfect this week).

If you need a place to get started, open your bible to 1 Kings and read chapter 19:1-21. See if you can relate to Elijah as he too is weary and in need of finding rest in God.

What might God show you in looking at a piece of this man’s life?

Praying for you this week as we seek him together. May God meet you where you are!
