Day 6: Grief
Scripture:
“The Spirit of the sovereign Lord is on me because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn and provide for those who grieve in Zion- to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness and a garment of praise instead of despair.”
Isaiah 61:1-3a
Prayer:
Thank you, Jesus, for your unending love for me; thank you for bearing my sorrows yourself. I cast all my pain and grief upon you, for I know you care for me. (1Peter 5:7)
Blessed are those that mourn, for they will be comforted (Matthew 5:4); I wait in expectation for your comfort, Lord.
Please heal my heart dear Jesus, and by the power of the Holy Spirit, give me the words to pray even when I do not know how.
Father, grant me the comfort of Jesus that is available for all who mourn. Help me receive the crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. (Isaiah 61:1-3)
Above all else, give me the grace, not to grieve like those who have no hope. (1 Thessalonians 4:13) Jesus be my hope.
Reflection:
How will Jesus show up in my day today?
Do I have the eyes and ears to see and hear the wonders of his love and mercy?
How will I experience his grace? Will I see something miraculous? Something hope-filled that will transform me?
