Day 7
Start with Posture of Silence and Solitude (2 minutes)
Read Scripture: Psalm 130:1-8
Out of the depths I cry to you, Lord;
Lord, hear my voice.
Let your ears be attentive
to my cry for mercy.
If you, Lord, kept a record of sins,
Lord, who could stand?
But with you there is forgiveness,
so that we can, with reverence, serve you.
I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits,
and in his word I put my hope.
I wait for the Lord
more than watchmen wait for the morning,
more than watchmen wait for the morning.
Israel, put your hope in the Lord,
for with the Lord is unfailing love
and with him is full redemption.
He himself will redeem Israel
from all their sins.
Devotional:
In this psalm, David cries out to God. It’s such a comfort to cry out to God with knowledge that God will forgive, heal and bring us back into fellowship with himself because God desires to show mercy to all who are troubled so we might know his love and goodness. When we study deities or gods in which other religions hold to be true, we do not see gods who have their ears attentive to our struggles, ready to forgive our sins and restore us in our relationship. But this God only seeks redemption and relationship as a way to commune with us. He is not asking for anything more than that.
Questions to Ponder:
Are you comfortable crying out to God and asking for his mercy and grace to restore and redeem you? If not, why?
Prayer:
God. I’m grateful that I can come to you at any time, about anything. I know that you listen to the cries of my heart. I know that you have great power as the Creator of heaven and earth. Yet, at times, I still doubt. Sometimes I’m skeptical that my prayers can even be answered. My mind cannot comprehend a resolution. Lord, I confess my disbelief. Have mercy on my doubts and give me vision and hope for what you will do. Deepen my trust in you, and increase my faith so that I can see your faithfulness. Amen.
