Day 9: What is spiritual integrity?
“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. …” – Matthew 6:5-6
Tim Keller says, “Spiritual integrity is the state of being undivided together with the quality of brutal self-honesty. It demands a considerable depth of self-awareness and an uncompromising willingness to be authentic. The first step to cultivating spiritual integrity is to recognize that we are not always honest.”
Spiritual integrity can be evidenced by the way that we pray in private. What you spend time thinking about in private reveals the real you. Taking time to reflect on the things you think about when you are alone. Do your thoughts go toward things related to God and loving others or do you mostly think about plans you are making and things you want?
