Week 1: Day 3
The Messiah’s Mission
Scripture to meditate on:
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free.” – Luke 4:18
Devotional:
Jesus, the Messiah, came to fulfill the ultimate mission of justice. In his ministry, he exemplified the true essence of justice by uplifting the marginalized, healing the brokenhearted, and setting the oppressed free. NT Wright’s broken signposts remind us that our human attempts at justice often fall short, but through Christ, we can embrace a higher calling. Today, let us meditate on Jesus as the embodiment of justice and seek ways to continue his work of restoration in our world.
Question to ponder:
- How do you define justice? Where do you see the world’s form of justice competing with the justice Jesus talks about? What are the underlying values that contribute to the difference?
