Day 17: The Faith of Mary and Joseph
Scripture to meditate on: Luke 2:41-52 Simeon’s Prophecy
Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover. When he was twelve years old, they went up to the festival, according to the custom. After the festival was over, while his parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it. Thinking he was in their company, they traveled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends. When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him. After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers. When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you.”
“Why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?” But they did not understand what he was saying to them.
Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart. And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.

Beloved Joseph and Mary,
Today, as you seek your precious son Jesus in the Father’s temple, you witness a scene that speaks volumes about the divine purpose woven into His life. The elders marvel at Jesus, recognizing a wisdom beyond his years. They see a young man destined for miracles, ready to glorify the Lord with courage and profound questions. Jesus, a beautiful boy, comes in peace, offering words that echo with a purpose beyond comprehension.
As you listen to his teachings, hear the echoes of promises, the assurance of a prepared place, and the pledge to return. Jesus desires to live among us, sharing in our struggles, offering healing and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. His words transcend time, a call to care for one another, show compassion, and live in service. The promise extends to future generations, encompassing artists, musicians, craftsmen—every individual with unique talents and strengths. Jesus, the embodiment of love, invites you to believe, be saved, and share life with Him.
In gratitude, acknowledge forgiveness, and hold onto the promises laid out for you and generations to come. Reflect on the disciples as examples, spreading the gospel worldwide. As you lift prayers in adoration, know that Mary’s treasured moments have indeed become salvation for us all through Jesus Christ, the light of the world.
