Day 30: The Journey of Faith
Scripture to meditate on: Hebrews 11:8-12 Abraham’s Faith Journey
By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God. And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise. And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.
Devotional:
Because of his faith in God, Abraham embraced God’s promise, he did not doubt nor question God’s promise (Romans 4:20). Faith is reflected in our evaluation of God’s Word to us versus our known circumstances… As an example, Sarah judged God faithfulness He had promised. We learn from Abraham’s faith journey that we should evaluate situations from God’s standpoint and not ours… He is always able.
Romans 4:18-21 (NLT), Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping… Abraham’s faith did not weaken, even though, at about 100 years of age, he figured his body was as good as dead—and so was Sarah’s womb.
Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God. He was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises.
Faith in Jesus is not about us ignoring the facts. Faith is not blind. Our Faith in God is based on God’s Truth, and the basis of our faith can be understood and explained. Faith in God, in its most basic form, is convinced that God the Creator exists and that He rewards those who diligently/earnestly seek Him (Hebrews 11:6). From Abraham’s faith journey we also learn that strong Faith is knowing the facts but, even so, we choose to believe the Truth in God’s Word… that God is able to do whatever he promises.
As we remember the coming of Christ into the world, we should be reminded of Jesus’ call to all in Matthew 11:28, Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Our walk with the Lord is a journey of Faith and we need to always be reminded that whatever we are believing God for and are trusting Him to do in our lives, He will do according to His will. With every step, we need that inner conviction that God’s plan is the perfect plan and that it is always about God’s ability and not our inadequacies or limitations. True freedom is in God’s will for our lives… let us follow Jesus faithfully.
