Day 4
READ Galatians 1:6-9
I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!
COMMENTARY:
In these verses, Paul expresses deep concern over the Galatians’ departure from the true gospel of grace. He is astonished that they have so quickly turned to a different message, one that distorts the essence of Christ’s grace. This alternative gospel being preached to them is not truly good news; it is a perversion of the true message of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ alone.
Paul’s reaction underscores the seriousness of deviating from the true gospel. Any teaching that adds requirements or conditions to salvation by grace through faith undermines the very foundation of our faith. Paul issues a solemn warning against anyone who would preach such a distorted gospel, declaring them to be under God’s curse.
As believers, we are called to stand firm in the truth of the gospel and to discern and reject any teachings that would distort or undermine it. Let us hold fast to the purity and simplicity of the gospel message, trusting in the sufficiency of Christ’s grace for our salvation. May we be diligent in studying God’s Word and upholding the integrity of the gospel in our lives and communities.
