Book of Galatians

Day 27

READ Galatians 4:21-23
Tell me, you who want to be under the law, are you not aware of what the law says? For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave woman and the other by the free woman. His son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, but his son by the free woman was born as the result of a divine promise.

COMMENTARY:
In these verses, Paul uses the story of Abraham and his two sons, Ishmael and Isaac, as an allegory to illustrate the difference between the bondage of the law and the freedom of faith. He emphasizes that the son born according to the flesh represents the law and leads to bondage, while the son born through promise represents faith and leads to freedom.

Questions to ponder:

  • Reflect on the story of Abraham and his two sons, Ishmael and Isaac. How does this story help you understand the difference between the law and faith?
  • Consider the bondage that comes from trying to fulfill the law through human effort. How does this truth resonate with your own experiences?
