Book of Ezekiel: Chapter 2
The second chapter of Ezekiel begins the first call from God that was given to the prophet.
In this short chapter, the Lord speaks to Ezekiel through the greatly detailed vision that was described in chapter 1. The Lord tells Ezekiel that He is making Ezekiel into a messenger for the exiles in Babylonia.
God’s instructions warn Ezekiel that his audience will be rebellious. They will not listen, they will intimidate, and they will try to convince Ezekiel to follow their rebellious ways. But God insists that Ezekiel ignore them and deliver His message, no matter how poorly it will be received.
The chapter ends with the hand of God reaching down to give Ezekiel a scroll, with writing on both sides. The scroll contained his instructions and God’s message. In chapter 3 we will learn more about the scroll and how God wants Ezekiel to become a Watchman for Israel.
Key Verse:
“You must give them my messages whether they listen or not. But they won’t listen, for they are completely rebellious!” ~ Ezekiel 2:7 (NLT)
Questions to ponder:
- Why is it important to follow God’s instructions, rather than our own?
- Name a way in which you have rebelled against God in the past. How did you right the wrong?
