Scripture: Zechariah 9:9
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your king is coming to you;
righteous and having salvation is he,
humble and mounted on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

Moments of true humility make an impression. They provide pictures of Christlikeness that mark our memories and inspire us to humble ourselves in authentic ways.
As an elementary school teacher, I’ve taught hundreds of children; but two students I taught over 20 years ago continue to be the first image that comes to mind when I reflect on living a life marked by humility.
Amanda and Ben. Any time their fifth grade class celebrated a special event and shared food together, these two 10-year olds quietly placed themselves at the back of the line. After noticing this predictable pattern on several occasions of birthday treats or book club refreshments, I finally mentioned it to them. Ben and Amanda each explained that they chose to go to the end of the line to make sure that their classmates would all get enough.
