Day 8
Scripture: Deuteronomy 18:15-19
The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him. For this is what you asked of the Lord your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, “Let us not hear the voice of the Lord our God nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die.”
The Lord said to me: “What they say is good. I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put my words in his mouth. He will tell them everything I command him. I myself will call to account anyone who does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name.”
Story from the Blue Seats:
When I hear the word “geometry,” I think back to high school—specifically, my freshman year. I wasn’t confident in math, and the thought of tackling proofs and angles filled me with dread. On the first day of class, I slid into a seat in the back corner, hoping to stay unnoticed.
But then, I met Ms. Weast. She greeted us by name with a warm smile and a laugh that melted the tension in the room. She wasn’t just a teacher—she was an encourager, patient with our questions, and persistent in her belief that we could succeed. She came alongside us, offering help in a way that preserved our dignity and lifted our spirits.
What made her impact even more powerful was her story. Ms. Weast had been in a skiing accident that left her paralyzed from the neck down. Despite this immense challenge, she showed up for us every day. She modeled resilience and grace, and through her presence, I learned more than geometry. Ms. Weast taught me that I could do hard things—not just solve equations but face the challenges of life with courage and determination.
Her example reminds me of Moses, a leader who didn’t consider himself qualified but whom God called to teach, lead, and advocate for His people. In Deuteronomy 18:15-19, Moses tells the Israelites that God would one day raise up another prophet like him — one who would guide them in truth. Moses points us to Jesus, the ultimate teacher and advocate, who leads us in love and redeems us through His sacrifice.
This Advent, I’m grateful for the people God places in our lives to lead, encourage, and point us to Him. Just as Moses foreshadowed Christ, the teachers and mentors in our lives reflect His love and care to prepare us for the hard things and remind us of the hope we have in Him.
