Day 21
Scripture: Genesis 12:1-3
The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.
“I will make you into a great nation,
and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you.”

The call to step into the unknown came during an unexpected season in my life. I was living in New York City, immersed in the familiar rhythms of a bustling metropolis and surrounded by the comfort of close friendships. Yet, deep within, I sensed God stirring my heart toward something new. Questions flooded my mind: Where would I go? How would I sustain myself? The uncertainty felt overwhelming, and I wrestled with fear.
A trusted friend became a voice of encouragement, often saying, “I believe God is telling you to move.” Her words lingered in my heart, resonating as more than mere advice, they felt like a divine whisper. Soon after, I received an unexpected job offer with an international organization. It was a clear confirmation, yet another question arose: Where would I live?
God began to open doors in ways that only He could orchestrate. A generous family welcomed me into their home for several months, providing not just shelter but also a sense of community and belonging. Through their connections, I learned of a potential housing opportunity. When I met the landlord, his response was surprising: “Take your time, think about it, and get back to me.” His graciousness reminded me that God’s hand was guiding every step of this transition.
Challenges persisted. Without a driving history or credit, securing transportation felt impossible. After countless closed doors, a close friend offered to cosign for a car. Even at the dealership, obstacles arose, and frustration mounted. But through persistence and God’s favor, the impossible became possible. I drove away with a vehicle I couldn’t have obtained on my own, another testimony of God’s provision.
Looking back, I see how God removed every barrier and provided exactly what I needed, not just housing and transportation but also an unanticipated ministry opportunity. Like Abraham, I had to trust God without knowing all the details. Obedience and faith became my guideposts, and God’s faithfulness met me at every turn.
It’s not easy when God calls us to move. Our human nature craves certainty, yet trusting God requires surrendering our need for control. If we already knew every detail, where would faith come in? My prayer is that God will always find me with a heart ready to say “yes.”
This Advent season, as we celebrate the fulfillment of God’s promises in Jesus Christ, let us be reminded that He goes before us, prepares the way, and blesses us, not just for our benefit but so we can be a blessing to others.
Wherever He leads, we can trust Him to be faithful, just as He was with Abraham and countless others who dared to follow His call. It is God who gives us the grace to step out in obedience, for it is He alone who works in us to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose (Philippians 2:13). Our confidence rests not in our ability but in His unfailing provision and strength.
