Ecclesiastes: Chapter 6
The teacher continues to expound on the meaninglessness of a life without God. He makes the point that too often we spend so much of our time working and running around in our lives that we do not take the time to enjoy our life. The opportunity to ‘stop and smell the roses’ is truly a gift from God. Life rushes by and before you know it your kids are grown, your career is over, and you wonder where the time went. Solomon bemoans the situation in which a person spends all their time toiling and never takes the time to reap the harvest of enjoyment. This harvest is God’s blessing but we must avail ourselves of it.
Key Verse:
“A man may have a hundred children and live many years; yet no matter how long he lives, if he cannot enjoy his prosperity and does not receive proper burial, I say that a stillborn child is better off than he.” ~ Ecclesiastes 6:3
Questions to ponder:
- What has God blessed you with that you are not taking the time to enjoy frequently enough?
- When will you take some time today to really enjoy your life as it is?
