Ecclesiastes: Chapter 10
“You fool!” This admonishment is not uncommon in our day and usually is applied to someone who does not do what obviously needs to be done. This chapter is full of warnings against being or following a fool. So what is a fool in scripture? Being a fool has nothing to do with level of education or learning. Rather it applies to one who refuses to learn. Or more explicitly, refuses to follow God’s teaching (Proverbs 1:7, 20-27).
We are all on the same life journey and while we go along we are exposed to God’s teachings through our church, our personal Bible study time, other readings and our interactions with other believers. Yet how often do we turn our back on what we know to be the truth and follow a path or our own choosing? When we do this the admonishment “you fool” applies.
Key Verse:
“Even as he walks along the road, the fool lacks sense and shows everyone how stupid he is.” ~ Ecclesiastes 10:3
Questions to ponder:
- What foolish thing did you do recently?
- How did that affect you and those around you?
- What do you need to do to be more faithful to God’s teaching?
