Rhythms of Jesus – Week 3: The Discipline of Solitude
Day 18: Waiting on the Lord
Waiting is not easy. In a world that values speed, efficiency, and immediate results, waiting can feel like wasted time. But in God’s kingdom, waiting is not passive—it is an act of faith. Isaiah 40:31 reminds us that those who hope in the Lord—or as some translations say, wait on the Lord—will experience renewed strength.
Waiting on God means trusting in His timing, even when answers seem delayed. It means resting in His promises rather than striving for our own solutions. When we wait on the Lord, we acknowledge that our strength is not enough, but His is limitless.
The imagery of soaring on wings like eagles reminds us that God lifts us higher than our struggles. Eagles do not frantically flap their wings to stay aloft—they soar, carried by the wind. When we wait on the Lord, we stop relying on our own efforts and allow His Spirit to carry us.
Are you in a season of waiting? Be encouraged—God is at work even when you cannot see it. Your waiting is not in vain. He is strengthening you, preparing you, and drawing you closer to Him.
Key Verse:
“… but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” ~ Isaiah 40:31
Putting It into Practice:
- Instead of rushing ahead, pause. In a decision or challenge you’re facing, choose to wait and pray before acting.
- Replace frustration with expectation. Instead of asking, “Why is this taking so long?” ask, “Lord, what are You teaching me in this season?”
Waiting on the Lord is not about doing nothing—it is about trusting Him fully. As you wait, know that He is strengthening you for what lies ahead.
