Rhythms of Jesus – Week 6: The Discipline of Service
Day 40: Loving Through Action
Love is often easy to talk about, but true love is shown through action. In 1 John 3:18, we are challenged to move beyond mere words and demonstrate our love through our deeds. Words can be comforting and encouraging, but it is through our actions that we truly reflect God’s love to the world. Jesus Himself is the ultimate example of this, having shown His love not just through words but through sacrifice, service, and selflessness.
Loving through action means being present for others in their times of need, offering a helping hand without expecting anything in return, and making choices that put the welfare of others above our own. It’s easy to say “I love you,” but it takes courage and sacrifice to show it through tangible acts of kindness and compassion. God calls us to love in ways that bring healing and hope to those around us, just as He has done for us.
True love isn’t passive. It’s active, it’s engaged, and it seeks to serve. The world will know we are Christians not by our words, but by the way we love in truth, through the way we live.
Key Verse:
Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. ~ 1 John 3:18
Thoughts and Actions:
- Reflect on how your actions can speak louder than your words, showing others the love of Christ in ways that transform hearts.
- Think of one specific way you can show love through action today. It could be as simple as helping a neighbor or offering a kind gesture to someone who may be struggling. Let your love be genuine and transformative, reflecting the heart of Christ.
