Rhythms of Jesus – Week 6: The Discipline of Service

Day 42: Being the Hands and Feet of Christ

As believers, we are not just called to be recipients of God’s grace, but to be active participants in His work here on earth. Ephesians 2:10 reminds us that we are God’s handiwork, crafted with purpose and intention, created in Christ Jesus to do good works. These good works are not random or arbitrary; they are part of God’s divine plan for our lives. Each of us has a unique role to play in His kingdom.

To be the hands and feet of Christ means to serve as He did—selflessly, with humility, and in love. Jesus didn’t just teach about love and service, He demonstrated it through His actions. As His followers, we are called to continue His mission by loving and serving others, being His tangible presence in a world that desperately needs His touch.

These good works are not meant to be occasional acts of kindness, but rather a way of life—woven into the fabric of our daily routine. Serving others becomes a natural outpouring of the love and grace we’ve received. It’s how we live out our identity as God’s creation, reflecting His goodness and love in all we do.

Key Verse:
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. ~ Ephesians 2:10

Thoughts and Actions:

  • Think about how you can make serving others a regular part of your life. Perhaps set a goal to volunteer once a week, help a neighbor in need, or find another way to serve consistently. Create a simple plan for how you can incorporate this spiritual discipline into your routine, and ask God to help you remain faithful in carrying out the good works He has prepared for you.
