Rhythms of Jesus – Week 3: The Discipline of Solitude
Day 16: Be Still and Know God
Stillness is a rare gift in today’s world. We are constantly moving, thinking, planning, and responding. But God calls us to something different—He invites us to be still. In Psalm 46:10, we are reminded that stillness is not just about physical rest but about a posture of the heart that acknowledges God’s presence, sovereignty, and power.
To be still means to cease striving, to let go of control, and to rest in the truth that God is in charge. It is in the quiet that we begin to recognize His voice, His leading, and His peace. Stillness does not come naturally; our minds race, and our hearts are easily distracted. But the more we practice being still before God, the more we learn to trust Him fully.
Knowing that He is God means we do not have to carry the weight of the world on our shoulders. We do not have to solve every problem or have every answer. Instead, we can rest in the assurance that He is working, even when we cannot see it.
Key Verse:
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations,I will be exalted in the earth.” ~ Psalm 46:10
Putting It into Practice:
- Set aside five minutes today to sit in silence before God. No distractions, no agenda—just stillness. Breathe deeply and focus on His presence.
- When anxiety or busyness creeps in, pause and remind yourself: God is in control. I can rest in Him.
- Use Psalm 46:10 as a breath prayer—as you inhale, pray, “Be still,” and as you exhale, pray, “and know that I am God.”
Stillness is not about doing nothing; it is about making space for God to move in our hearts. As you practice this discipline, you will come to know Him more deeply, not just in knowledge, but in experience.
