Rhythms of Jesus – Week 2: The Discipline of Scripture

Day 10: The Authority of Scripture

The Bible is not just an inspiring book or a collection of wise teachings—it is the very Word of God. Today’s passage tells us that all Scripture is God-breathed, meaning it originates from Him, carrying His authority and power. Because it is divinely inspired, the Bible is completely trustworthy, relevant, and sufficient for our lives.

God’s Word serves multiple purposes. It teaches us truth, reveals when we’ve gone astray, corrects our path, and trains us in righteousness. Scripture is not meant to be read passively—it is meant to shape us, equip us, and prepare us to live according to God’s will. If we truly believe that the Bible carries divine authority, we must submit to its wisdom, even when it challenges us or goes against what we feel or think.

The authority of Scripture also means that it is our ultimate standard. In a world where truth is often seen as relative, the Bible remains unchanging and firm. It provides clarity in confusion, guidance in decision-making, and correction when we need redirection. If we want to be thoroughly equipped for every good work, we must root our lives in the authority of God’s Word.

Key Verses:
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. ~ 2 Timothy 3:16-17
