Rhythms of Jesus – Week 4: The Discipline of Community

Day 28: Serving One Another in Love

True community is built on love, and one of the greatest expressions of love is service. Jesus Himself demonstrated this when He knelt to wash His disciples’ feet, showing that leadership in His kingdom is marked by humility and selflessness (John 13:14-15). He calls us to do the same—to serve one another, not out of obligation, but out of love.

When we serve, we reflect the heart of Christ. Service shifts our focus from ourselves to others, fostering unity, strengthening relationships, and revealing God’s love in tangible ways. It’s in these moments—whether through simple acts of kindness or sacrificial giving—that we truly live out our faith.

The beauty of serving in love is that it doesn’t require a platform or a grand gesture. It happens in everyday moments—offering a listening ear, encouraging a friend, meeting a need, or simply being present for someone who is struggling.

Key Verse:
You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. ~ Galatians 5:13

Step into Community:

  • Make serving a habit. Consider committing to an ongoing way to serve, such as volunteering at your church, helping a local ministry, or mentoring someone in faith.
  • Serve with joy. Ask God to give you a heart that delights in serving others, not for recognition, but as an act of love and worship.

Continuing the Habit of Community:
Community is not just something we experience—it’s something we build. As you move forward, make it a priority to stay connected, invest in relationships, and create a culture of love and service wherever you go.

When we serve one another humbly in love, we become the hands and feet of Jesus, shining His light into the world. Keep stepping into community—God will use your love and service to transform lives, including your own.
