Rhythms of Jesus – Week 4: The Discipline of Community

Day 27: Forgiving Others

Forgiveness is at the heart of the Christian faith. Jesus extended His grace to us when we least deserved it, and He calls us to do the same for others. But forgiving isn’t always easy. When we are hurt, betrayed, or disappointed, our natural instinct is often to hold onto resentment. Yet, Scripture reminds us that we are to forgive as the Lord forgave us—completely, unconditionally, and out of love.

Forgiveness doesn’t mean excusing wrongdoing or pretending that pain doesn’t exist. Rather, it is an act of obedience that frees us from the weight of bitterness. It is a choice to release the offense and entrust justice to God. When we forgive, we reflect the heart of Christ and allow His healing to restore our relationships and our own hearts.

Jesus taught that forgiving others is not optional—it is a mark of a heart transformed by His grace (Matthew 6:14-15). As we receive His mercy, let us extend that same mercy to those around us.

Key Verse:
Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. ~ Colossians 3:13

Step into Community:

  • Pray for someone who has wronged you. Even if reconciliation isn’t possible, pray for their well-being and ask God to soften your heart.
  • Seek reconciliation. If there is someone you need to forgive—or someone you need to ask forgiveness from—take a step toward healing today.

Forgiveness brings freedom. As you let go of past hurts, may you walk in the peace and love that Christ so freely gives.
